Every step on the inner path, however seemingly small, This is a simple practice and a doorway to enlightenment that stands in plain sight, yet blends into the landscape so perfectly you could walk right past and never see it. In any moment and especially those in which you feel like reaching for the next thing, or when you feel needy or afraid, try this:
Instead of reaching or trying to make something happen, stop for a moment and notice what is. Maybe it is an experience of emptiness, discomfort or fear. Instead of avoiding or resisting the experience, imagine that you can let it touch you. Even very gingerly, let it come to meet you. Meeting the experience, notice what it feels like. Let whatever you are feeling be here and imagine that you can be here too. Rather than being the feeling, be here with it. Now notice: are you safe? Is the ground beneath you? Can you breathe? Allow the ground to hold you. Breathe the air. If you feel afraid, what is the danger? Be in the experience of danger for a moment. Does anything bad happen? Is the feared thing happening now, in this moment? If you are safe now, accept safety. Accepting the reality of safety can sometimes feel dangerous, as if you are letting your guard down. Try it anyway, let your guard down. If you want something and you don’t get it, what happens? Are you still okay? Do you still exist? How do you know? Be aware of being, deeper than want, deeper than fear, deeper than the mind’s ideas of what it has to have. Imagine that you can sit inside yourself, as if in a deep seat in the inmost core of your being, in the essence and the life that is you. Settle here as if you are settling gently at the still bottom of a lake, where everything is peaceful and slow motion beauty – and in this way have what you are really seeking.

We may at first have thought consciousness was in the mind, or even thought it was the mind itself. That it was somehow part of our domain; our personal interface with life or our go-to source of thinking and reason.
Exploring the mind however, we discover it is not consciousness that is personal, but the mind. We discover the mind is limited and finite and that we can go beyond it — to consciousness itself. Even as a new explorer, we are aware of something here vast and whole, an infinite peace, potent and complete. And we know — as if remembering — that this is also the intrinsic, intimate truth of ourselves.
