  • We may at first have thought consciousness was in the mind, or even thought it was the mind itself. That it was somehow part of our domain; our personal interface with life or our go-to source of thinking and reason.

Exploring the mind however, we discover it is not consciousness that is personal, but the mind. We discover the mind is limited and finite and that we can go beyond it — to consciousness itself. Even as a new explorer, we are aware of something here vast and whole, an infinite peace, potent and complete. And we know — as if remembering — that this is also the intrinsic, intimate truth of ourselves.

Welcome!

This is a blog for those who travel an inner path, seeking truth, beauty and the source of being.

Here are ideas and practices to help and encourage the traveler, and to address the obstacles that we, as students of consciousness, inevitably encounter. Everything you find here you can do at anytime and take as far as you want.

Wrong, Bad and Selfish

Have you ever done anything wrong, that later you realized was wrong and you changed your ways?

Like, have you ever taken advantage of someone? Lied? Taken something not yours? Pushed your way to the front to get more or be first? Insisted you were right just because you didn’t want to be wrong?

So have I!

Welcome to the Evolution of Consciousness

This is what we are all doing – learning that we are not the ego/mind and how not to be its mean, bad, selfish behavior. We are all in the process of finding out what we really are, and that means we are finding out what life is.

Because we are Life – all of it, eternally and infinitely.

Maybe you have had a clue of this – a glimpse, a sense, like when you were in the garden being with the task at hand: the plants, the soil, the sun. And you saw the way the light touched each leaf and each grain of soil. You saw the miniature world under your hands, heard the sounds, felt the sun on your back. Everything was alive, it was all one and you were too. Like that. Or like painting something – a picture or a house – or cooking, dancing, meditating and you lost yourself and entered the timeless flow of everything.

All of that is transcending the ego/mind. The ego is what we all think we are (yes we do). But sometimes we expand beyond it and experience life and our true selves for a moment. And this changes us. Life is always giving us the opportunity to know it. It is always asking, What is life?

That is always the question.

Group Projects

Life is always giving us this question as a group project too – and we have to work it out together.

To work on our project we have big, huge struggles that take hundreds of years – revolutions, wars, uprisings, subjugation. We evolve, collectively, out of these things. Sometimes we take giant steps backward (it seems), but truth rises up eventually. It rises up because truth is what we are. We just have to struggle through the ego’s hold on us and then the light breaks in. We get it! We were blind but now we see.

Slavery was one of those struggles and we got it, finally. But this was later. At the time, what we were doing seemed perfectly normal.

What is life?

Guess what? Life has not stopped asking the question. There are things we are doing right now that our descendants will see as wrong, bad and selfish. But right now, these things are not even on our radar. They are normal.

In the meantime, we can hope our descendants will be kinder to us than we are to our ancestors. We can hope they will recognize and acknowledge the evolution of consciousness of which they are still a part. We hope they will not shun or condemn us, tear us limb from limb, destroy our memory. If they can hold us in their regard, as pathfinders, getting as far as we could, then we know they will follow and take us all a step further into awareness and the light.

Maybe we can learn something from our (hopefully) wiser descendants. Instead of thinking we are enlightened, awake and evolved already, maybe we can realize that we don’t have a clue about what we don’t yet know.

Then we can work on our projects and find our way into the next great awakening. Then we have a chance! And so do our ancestors.

    Definitions

The ego/mind is based in the ideas of identity and duality, and committed to its survival over all else. To ensure this, the ego/mind uses any means necessary to get what it desires and avoid what it fears. Over eons, the ego/mind and the survival instinct evolved in the manner it fulfilled this purpose, developing increasingly sophisticated and complex capabilities: it learned to conceptualize, manipulate, imagine, deceive, convince, invent and so on. All of this bundled together with emotion (another evolutionary development), created what most of us now experience as our identity — as myself.”

A paradigm is the framework of belief, perception and emotion through which we experience and understand ourselves and all of life. It is the filter through which we perceive, the lens through which we see. Like water to a fish, it is our unquestioned sense of reality. The paradigm both creates the appearance of reality and confirms to us that what we call reality is as we believe it to be. Normally, we are oblivious to what makes up this paradigm — the framework of what we call reality.”

Consciousness is often thought of as being located in or created by the brain; its origin purely chemical or physical, and its function that of creator, recorder and experiencer of our interface with life. Consciousness seems like our individual and distinct sense of reality, but what we are actually experiencing that seems so unique to ourselves, is the ego/mind.

Consciousness is an infinite and omnipotent field, a unified and congruent wholeness of unlimited creative power whose source, and ours, is Absolute Reality.

God, Divinity, Ultimate Reality, Self and one's true essence all seek to describe the indescribable: the Absolute, which is omnipotent, omnipresent and eternal; the infinite unity out of which arises all existence, consciousness and life.

    The world exists,
    but our perception of it
    does not.
